NevadaConcealed Carry Permit & Reciprocity

Nevada is a shall-issue state — it is not a permitless (constitutional) carry state. To carry a concealed firearm you must hold a Nevada CCW permit, issued by the sheriff of your county of residence (a non-resident applies to the sheriff of the county where the qualifying course was taken). Applicants must be at least 21 (18 for qualifying military), complete a sheriff-approved firearms course including live-fire qualification, submit fingerprints, and pay the county's fee; the permit is valid for five years. Open carry of a firearm is lawful without a permit. Nevada has no proactive duty to inform, but a permittee must carry the permit and present it on the demand of a peace officer (NRS 202.3667). Nevada recognizes a specific list of 28 states' concealed weapon permits (NRS 202.3689), several restricted to a permit class — it does not recognize all states.

Carry practicalities

Permitless carry

Not allowed

Nevada is NOT a permitless-carry state. Carrying a concealed firearm without a permit is a crime (NRS 202.350); a Nevada CCW permit (or a permit from a state on Nevada's recognition list) is required to carry concealed. Open carry, however, is lawful without a permit.

Open carry

Permitless

Open carry of a firearm is lawful in Nevada without a permit for a person who may lawfully possess a firearm. Open carry remains subject to the prohibited-place restrictions (schools, public buildings with screening, airports, etc.) and to private-property rules.

Duty to inform

Not required

Nevada imposes no affirmative duty to proactively notify a peace officer that you are carrying. A CCW permittee must, however, carry the permit and present it (with photo ID) on the demand of a peace officer while carrying a concealed firearm (NRS 202.3667). There is no proactive notification requirement.
