MississippiConcealed Carry Permit & Reciprocity
Mississippi allows permitless carry: any person who may lawfully possess a firearm may carry a concealed weapon in a holster, sheath, purse, or similar container without a license (Miss. Code §97-37-1). Mississippi still issues a Firearms Permit through the Department of Public Safety in two classes: the Standard Firearms Permit (SFP), which has no training requirement, and the Enhanced permit (E-SFP), which requires an 8-hour DPS-certified firearms course and allows carry in places the standard permit does not (public colleges, government buildings, and other §45-9-101(13) locations). Permits are issued to applicants 21 or older (18 for military/veterans), require fingerprints, cost $100 for a new permit, and are valid for five years. Mississippi has no proactive duty to inform. Under §45-9-101(22), Mississippi recognizes all valid out-of-state weapons permits regardless of the holder's age. The Enhanced permit is honored by more states, so it is the class worth holding for out-of-state travel.

Open carry
Permitless
Open carry of a firearm is lawful in Mississippi without a permit — the Mississippi Constitution and §97-37-1 protect open carry for a person who may lawfully possess a firearm. Open carry remains subject to the prohibited-place restrictions of §45-9-101(13) and to private-property rules.
