Steps to get a Mississippi SFP

  1. Confirm you are eligible. Be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and not prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law.
  2. Get fingerprinted. Submit fingerprints for the state and FBI background check as part of the application.
  3. Submit your application to Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Firearm Permit Division. File your Mississippi Firearms Permit (SFP) application with Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Firearm Permit Division. See the official page for forms and instructions.
  4. Pay the application fee. Pay the SFP application fee of $100. $100 for a new Standard Firearms Permit; $80 renewal (reduced for seniors/retired military/disabled veterans). The Enhanced permit involves additional training costs.
  5. Receive your permit and note the renewal date. Once approved, your SFP is valid for 5 years, after which it must be renewed.

Note: Mississippi allows permitless carry, so this permit is optional in-state — but it is still worth holding for reciprocity when traveling.
