Steps to get a Florida CWFL

  1. Confirm you are eligible. Be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and not prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law.
  2. Complete the required firearms training. Applicants must submit a training certificate demonstrating firearm proficiency (e.g. a hunter-safety or firearms course, law-enforcement/military training).
  3. Get fingerprinted. Submit fingerprints for the state and FBI background check as part of the application.
  4. Submit your application to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services — Division of Licensing. File your Concealed Weapon or Firearm License (CWFL) application with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services — Division of Licensing.   6. Receive your permit and note the renewal date. Once approved (typically up to 90 days), your CWFL is valid for 7 years, after which it must be renewed.

Note: Florida allows permitless carry, so this permit is optional in-state — but it is still worth holding for reciprocity when traveling.
