Steps to get a Missouri CCW
- Confirm you are eligible. Be at least 19 years old and a Missouri resident, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and not prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law.
- Complete the required firearms training. At least 8 hours of firearms safety instruction that includes a live-fire exercise and a live-fire test — a minimum of 20 rounds fired from a handgun at 7 yards from a B-27 silhouette (or equivalent) target (§571.111.2). The live fire is incorporated within the 8-hour minimum rather than counted as separate range hours.
- Get fingerprinted. Submit fingerprints for the state and FBI background check as part of the application.
- Submit your application to Missouri County Sheriffs. File your Missouri Concealed Carry Permit (CCW) application with Missouri County Sheriffs. See the official page for forms and instructions.
- Pay the application fee. Pay the CCW application fee of $100. The sheriff's application fee is set by statute at not more than $100 for a new permit and not more than $50 for a renewal (§571.101.11–.12).
- Receive your permit and note the renewal date. Once approved, your CCW is valid for 5 years, after which it must be renewed.
Note: Missouri allows permitless carry, so this permit is optional in-state — but it is still worth holding for reciprocity when traveling.
